Compared to the sale at a book store, the prices are usually lower, but the books may be in a bad condition. In a book store, the book is likely to be new.
If you do not return a library book you
- Have to pay the value of the book
- Pay a late fee for the delay in informing the library about the loss of the book.
Libraries for a long time were repositories of written knowledge (like the monastery libraries in the Middle Ages), and people could go there to read the manuscripts.
Benjamin Franklin started the first circulation library in Philadelphia. Boston had the first free public library. US has the largest number of free libraries.
In many cities, the usage of libraries has greatly decreased over the past few years. Many prefer to read books and ebooks online or on their computer, but still nothing beats the convenience or comfort of reading a book anywhere you want.
